[Background]

Fai’s background contains spoilers for the manga. Just a warning.

In the country of Valeria, the of King's brother's wife was expecting a child. There was happiness throughout the whole country, for they were excited at the idea of finally having an heir to the throne. However, the last thing anyone would have expected was the birth of twins—Fai and Yuui. The presence of twins in Valeria are perceived as a bad omen, and this omen proved to be nothing but true. Soon after their birth, crops failed, the weather deteriorated and other such misfortunes came over the country. It was not long until the prince died and their mother committed suicide at the idea of giving birth to such Twins of Misfortune.

Unfortunately, it was not only because of this that the twins were feared. With their powers combined, they possessed a magical ability that was destined to become greater than that of the King’s. The very idea frightened the people of Valeria, and the King was forced to step in and remedy the situation, for he had come across a connection. As the twins lived happily in the palace, the people and the lands suffered. In order to reverse the course of misfortune, he decided to make the twins suffer as much as the lands had.

Forcing Fai and Yuui into the throne room, he gave them a choice: They must decide upon one of them to be sentenced to death, or both of them must suffer. The twins said nothing but clung tightly to the other’s hand.

Decision made, the King took them to the Valley of Sinners where their magical abilities had no effect. He took Fai and placed him in a tower, hundreds of feet high. He then placed Yuui at the bottom of the tower with no hope of escape. And so the twins lived, Yuui trying everyday to climb high enough to reach Fai. More and more bodies were tossed into the valley until the entire country was dead. It was only then that the Kind jumped into the pit, mad and crazed. He told Yuui that it was them—The Twins of Misfortune—that destroyed the country, and now they were the only ones alive. With that, the King took his sword and killed himself, in front of his son’s eyes.

This sight caused Yuui to break down, and Fai could do nothing but watch, knowing that if he had agreed to die when given the chance, Yuui wouldn’t be in such a state. Fai wanted to die, know that with his death, Yuui could be happy.

It wasn’t long until a man, Fei Wong Reed, who could travel between dimensions, appeared before the twins. He told them they he had the ability to save only one of them, and proceeded to as both of them who he should save. Both Fai and Yuui told Fei Wong Reed to save the other. But yet, it was Fai who appealed to him the most—telling Fei Wong Reed that he didn’t care if he died, the only thing he wanted was Yuui to live and be safe. Happy with that, Fei Wong Reed propelled Fai down the tower, where he died before Yuui’s helpless eyes.

Fei Wong Reed then altered Yuui’s memories, making Yuui think he has asked for his own survival, and not that of his twin’s. He was able to use Yuui’s guilt to his advantage. He placed several curses on Yuui, and told him that, having save him, he must do what he asked. And Fei Wong Reed wanted Yuui go on a journey, traveling from dimension to dimension so that he would obtain what he wants most. And Yuui had no choice but to agree.

Fei Wong Reed told Yuui that a man would be coming for him—a man named Ashura. However, upon introducing himself to his new mentor, Yuui took on the name of Fai, in memory of his twin, and developed a wish of his own—to bring his twin back to life. Upon reaching the new land of Celes, Ashura bestowed upon him the last name of “Flourite” after a magical stone, and in the years following, obtained the level “D” class of magician, completing his new name of Fai. D. Flourite.

Life with Ashura took getting used to, and it took years before Fai started smiling. But as the years went on, it became easier and easier until he called Celes his home. Ashura took advantage of Fai’s love of Celes and his magical abilities. Since Fai was cursed to kill anyone with magical powers greater than his own, Ashura placed a seal on him, to stop his power from growing. He also wheedled out a promise from Fai—to kill anyone who posed any threat to Celes. This came to fruit years later when Fai found that it was Ashura who had been murdered every single citizen of Celes. However, Fai was unable to kill the man that had saved him from his terrible fate, and placed Ashura under a deep sleep. He then fled the world, appearing at the home of the Witch of Dimensions, where he started his journey that Fei Wong Reed had prophesized.

This journey would last many years, and Fai would break many of his self-regulated rules. Trading his tattoo that regulated his powers, he refused to do magic. He was also determined not to get close to his companions, as those he’s close to have a tendency of obtaining extreme bad luck, going crazy, killing people and dying. From one world to the next, his walls slowly began to crack and he became closer and closer to Sakura, Syaoran and Kurogane, even going so far as to use his own magic to save them.

At least, until they reached the land of Tokyo. But since I am taking Fai from a point before that, I shall spare you the details.

[Personality]
Fai is a very complex character.

Upon meeting him for the first time, one would generally be under the impression that Fai is a happy-go-lucky, good natured, cheerful person without a care in the world. He enjoys teasing others, giving people nicknames and generally acting like he’s four years old.

However, all of that is nothing but an act.

Due to Fai’s less-than-pleasant past, Fai is actually a very depressed, sad person. He’s constantly reminding himself of his past in many ways, the least of which the name he goes by now. Whenever someone calls him Fai, it’s not himself he thinks of, it’s his twin. Due to this, and other reasons, Fai has a hard time letting go of the past—how could he with a constant reminder? However, due to this, Fai has a hard time focusing on the here and now, let alone thinking of the future. Despite his inability to leave the past be, he absolutely refuses to talk about it. When asked, or even pressed about it, Fai’s ready with a lie, a half-truth and a change of subject.

Fai also believes himself to be of bad luck. He’s seen it before; in both worlds he’s called home, every single citizen has died, and the rulers have gone crazy, only to inevitably be killed. Due to this, Fai is quite determined to not let anyone get close to him, lest they be affected by his bad luck as well. Fai would much rather be alone than let the people he cares about be hurt.

Fai is also quite cowardly. Rather than face his problems and his past head on, he runs from them as fast as possible, in the other direction. He does not like confrontation one bit. He would be perfectly content to live out the rest of his years as a lie rather than face what he knows he cannot beat. This trait also carries over in battle, should he be resigned to fighting rather than talking and retreating. His element is wind, meaning he is flighty, light and fleeting. His weapons of choice are bows and arrows, bar darts and magic—all of which are used at long range. Getting close to people, in every sense of the word, is actively avoided by Fai.

However, even this is beginning to fall apart. When he began his journey, he had told himself that he wasn’t going to get too close to any of his traveling companions and to see them as just that—companions. Yet, as time goes on and worlds go by, he finds himself genuinely caring for and worrying about his friends. He begins to go out of his way to comfort them and to do what he can to help them advance their travels. He even goes so far as to use magic—as self-proclaimed taboo—to safely transport them from one world to the next. He even takes this one step farther and has named himself “Mommy” of their group.

Fai is also quite a bit lazy. He would rather not fight and would prefer to spend his time lying about, accomplishing all he’s got to do without getting out of bed. This has been proven a few times in the world of Outo, when he opts out of being a hunter and decides to become a waiter instead, as it’s easier than fighting each day. Also, when Sakura is determined to prove herself, Fai is the first to step back and cheer them on from the sidelines.

But one has to wonder. How much of Fai’s cheeriness is a mask and how much is real? With such a tragic and miserable past, Fai didn’t have much of a childhood growing up. Now that he’s traveling from different world to different world with people he knows he can count on, Fai’s probably living out his childhood as much as he can. This includes addressing people more casually than he should, and giving Kurogane ridiculous nicknames to the point where he never says the ninja’s full name. He’s very active, and has a hard time staying in one place for too long. He uses his hands when he talks and his expressions are always very vibrant and expressive.

The only person who’s ever seen through Fai’s mask of cheeriness is Kurogane. And even though that sets alarm bells off and Fai knows he should keep as far away from Kurogane as possible… he can’t help but be drawn in by him. Even though he tries to keep people at a distance, Fai very much works off of people. He likes to put on a show and making people happy, without that, Fai becomes reflective and ultimately, as depressed as he tries to hide.

[Abilities]
Fai does possess magical abilities—he has ever since he was a kid. Fai’s abilities are many and vast, from using the wind to be able to fly, to stopping avalanches. He’s able to use it to attack and form barriers around people. He can even use it to travel across dimensions. Fai’s magic is much like a muscle in that, the more he uses it, the stronger it will become. Fai’s also got a curse place on him so that he’s required to kill anyone that has a stronger magical ability than he does.

In Somarium, Fai’s curse will no longer work as I’d much rather he not go around to anyone stronger than him an attempt to kill them. It might cause much more trouble than need be, haha. Fai’s ability to travel between dimensions will also no longer be with him so that he’s not able to leave immediately upon arriving. The rest of Fai’s magical powers will be cut in half, although he will try not to use them as much as possible anyways.

[Other important stuff]
Fai’s got a couple quirks that have been set forth in canon. He canonly sleeps on his chest with his head buried into his pillow. Also, since Fai does not have the ability to whistle without doing magic, he generally replaces the action by saying the word “Hyuu”. It’s as close to whistling as he can get, and it also annoys Kurogane, which is always fun to see.

Fai also likes to drink and has a high tolerance for alcohol. He’s proven to be good at acting to be drunk, although he has drank the night away without any effects to his personality whatsoever.

[Sample post]
[First Person]
Eh? [Fai gives a blink and points to himself.] You want to interview me? [After the interviewer nods, Fai gives a smile.] Sure!

- You have two options: either save your friend who is hanging from a cliff, or chase after the bad guy who put them in a position. If you choose the former, the bad guy will get away and it will be hard to catch him. If you choose the latter, the cliff will crumble and the friend will fall to the spiky rocks below. What do you do and why?

Well, I’d save my friend! I wouldn’t be a very good friend if I left them to die, now would I?

- There is a cake in the rain. What do you do?

[He blinks. What a random question.] I’d bring it inside and eat it! Who would want to waste a perfectly good cake?

- Do you prefer adventure or the peaceful life?

Peaceful! Laying on a beach all day, doing nothing~ Ah~ That would be the life!

- Is the best part of waking up having Folger's in your cup?

[He blinks, tilting his head to the side.] What’s Folgers?

- Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond?

I’d give them the time, of course!

- You just got a challenge to fight from one of the strongest gang leaders around. Do you accept or reject? Why?

Hmm, probably reject! If they’re strong, I don’t wanna fight them! I’d get Kuro-pin to fight them for me!

- Someone is trying to rob you! What do you do?

I’d run away! [He laughs.] Not that I have a lot to steal anyways! I don’t even have this country’s currency yet!

- What is more important to you: having friends or living on your own? Why?

[Fai considers this question for a while, the smile sliding off of his face. He lowers his head so that his bangs cover his eyes.] …Living on my own. That way, I couldn’t hurt anyone. [Or at least, that's what he'd say if he were being honest,]

…My friends! I don’t’ know what I’d do without them! [He laughs, smile back on his face.]

[There’s a second of silence before Fai looks up at the interviewer.] Was that the last question?

[Third Person]

It had gotten dark a lot quicker than he thought it would.

He had only been gone for about an hour or so, a bag of groceries in his hand. He had planned on making dinner for everyone, but they had realized that their current place of residence didn’t have any food whatsoever. So, Fai had excused himself and walked the couple of blocks to the market with a promise of being back soon.

The night air was warm, placing Fai in a serene state of mind. The last world they had traveled to had been a world like his own—cold, snow, blizzards. It was torturous, trying to keep a smile on his face when the events and memories of the past kept popping up at every single tiny thing: A brick wall. A pair of twins running in the streets. A jacket with fur on the collar. The sound Kurogane’s sword made when he unsheathed it. And not the mention the presence of snow everywhere. It was all he could do not to think of himself, at the bottom of a tower climbing, climbing, every day…

He was broken out of his gradually depressing thoughts by a drop on his forehead. He blinked, looking at his forehead cross-eyed and touched the drop with his free hand. Then, another drop, on his hand. And another and another and just like that it started to rain. Well. He supposed that would explain why he hadn’t seen anyone else in the streets. And why it had gotten dark as fast as it did.

Fai glanced down the street. It was only another block or so before he reached their living space above the candle store. The people who ran the store were elderly, and also lived above the store. They had been grateful for the bit of extra cash paying rent would get them, even it was only temporary. As close as he was, Fai broke into a run, hoping to return home before any of the food went bad in the rain.

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?]
YOU HAVE AN ACTIVE KUROGANE. I WOULD COMMIT MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE TO RP WITH AN ACTIVE KUROGANE akdjfaksefj

No, but really. I played Fai a while ago at a different site, and while I had fun, I took him from the wrong point in the series. I'd been meaning to try again and take him from a better point, and this seemed to be a good chance. Plus I was able to convince my Canadian sister to join, and it’s been forever since I’ve been able to roleplay with her.

PLUS. KUROGANE.

[Which rule was your favorite and why?]
The idea of a Confidential Contact post. I’ve been in, and even been in control of roleplays in which characters are OOC, and honestly, it’s frustrating. Having a post in which the mods can work with each person in case off OOC-ness is original and refreshing.

[Where did you hear about Somarium?]
The mun who played Karen from X told me about it.

[Do you need a promo code?]
Nope!

[Any questions?]
Nope! But I am sorry this app is so very long OTL
